Good news! We are set to scrimmage the Arizona Heat’s Division 2 team in Mesa on Saturday, May 23rd from 11-2pm. We will scrimmage at the Broadway Recreation Center at 59 E. Broadway Rd. Mesa, AZ 85210. Please let me know if you plan to attend the scrimmage. Please wear a white t-shirt for the game. Can we have two people volunteer to put together drinks and snacks for the team for the scrimmage? Is everyone/anyone interested in having a team lunch in Mesa after the game (let me know what you think)

Saturday is our last practice until mid-end August. I encourage everyone to take their guards home for the summer, if possible. Also, if you’d like to buy a ball to practice with over the summer, I recommend www.powersoccershop.com. This site is owned by Elio Navarro, a soccer player in Florida and balls are $69.99. He also has some great video on the site that shows different types of kicks (check it out!).

While our team will “break” for the summer, we’ll still be hard at work promoting the Tucson Power Cats so we can get a great start in the Fall for our 2009-2010 season. Our goals over the summer include: creating a Tucson Power Cats brochure to promote the team to new players and potential sponsors, recruit additional players, confirms fall practice dates with U of A, and fundraising for the team. We have a great team, and the next logical step is to really promote the team and create sponsorship opportunities for the team. Please let me know if you know of and can contact potential team sponsors. Funds raised will go towards: team shirts/jerseys, team brochure and materials, new soccer balls (desperately needed!), USPSA fall team registration ($200), 2009-2010 tournament fees and travel expenses (if as a team we decide to play in tournaments and travel), and additional plastic guards. Sponsors can donate money towards the team or underwrite a specific expense.
We currently have 13 players on the Tucson Power Cats, so with additional players joining us in the fall, it’s very possible we could split into two teams (we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it). For the fall, we will organize a power soccer clinic for new players and promote the team to local media outlets. Please let me know if you’re interested in helping get the word out about power soccer in Tucson.
